What is infrared sauna therapy?
Infrared waves also penetrate the body very deeply and thus can affect deeper tissue layers than traditional saunas. Infrared waves within the ~800-1080 nm range also hit energy production centers of cells, allowing them to become more efficient. This in turn allows cells to do all their tasks very efficiently which translates into increased healing speeds and improved stress response throughout the body, and more efficient detoxification pathways in the liver, kidneys, and GI tract. The increased efficiency of detoxification pathways occasionally can cause fatigue, sluggishness, or GI upset due to the the increased abilities of the liver, kidneys, and intestines to dispose of cellular waste. However, with continued sauna use, these effects quickly dissipate and patients often report increases in energy and vitality after the initial few weeks.
Unlike steam rooms, infrared sauna therapy does not involve high levels of moisture that can act as a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. Humidity levels inside the sauna are the same as ambient humidity levels, and thus do not pose a danger by creating an environment that is favorable to pathogen growth.
